As a member of Peace Action, and your constituent, I condone the House's recent decision to reaffirm our national appreciation for U.S. service members in Iraq and officially disapprove of escalating our military involvement in Iraq as a good first step to getting our troops out of harm’s way. However, the non-binding resolution is just that, a first step. I also call on you to take leadership in actually getting our troops out of harm’s way by signing on as a cosponsor to H.R. 746. This bill, introduced by Rep. McGovern, sets forth a six month timeline for U.S. troops to be redeployed from Iraq, while including provisions for some U.S. forces to stay in Iraq assisting in non-combat operations including protecting the U.S. diplomatic mission in Iraq, training Iraqi security forces and completing reconstruction activities. I implore you to fulfill your obligations to the brave volunteers serving the U.S. military and the Iraqi people, who are depending on you to end the U.S. occupation of Iraq. Your vote in favor of H.Con.Res. 63, and cosponsorship of H.R 746 are two important steps in the right direction. I look forward to hearing from you on the important issue of withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.
